Our book club meets online just four times a year, generally coinciding with the national meetings and publication of Midwifery Matters. This small but growing group allows for a lively discussion about the chosen title much like any other book club, except that our selections are specifically picked for their focus on women’s lives encompassing birth, midwifery or feminism. This facilitates a broad debate around wider issues as well as the opportunity to reflect on the writer and their skills with storytelling. Do come along even if you haven’t read the books, to enjoy a good old fashioned ARM debate – as always, all ARM members welcome.
June Pick: A Memoir of Your Choice
For this June meeting, we’re doing something a little different! Instead of a single book, we’re inviting you to bring along a memoir of your choice—one that is mother, midwife, birth, or woman-centred.
Some of the books already being picked include:
Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife by Peggy Vincent
A Midwife’s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Lady’s Hands, Lion’s Heart: A Midwife’s Saga by Carol Leonard
To start the conversation, feel free to share what you’re reading in the Discord group or our private Facebook page ahead of time. Looking forward to hearing your recommendations and discussing these powerful stories together. Email Lynn to join. Members only.
