SUMMARY:Optimal Cord Clamping – Whose blood is it anyway? ARM Webinar
DESCRIPTION:get your ticket\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Optimal Cord Clamping – Whose blood is it anyway?\nWhen a baby’s cord is clamped immediately after birth\, approximately 30% of their blood volume is left behind in the placenta. That blood contains iron\, oxygen\, over a million stem cells and goodness knows what else them at has yet to be uncovered. There has never been any evidence to show immediate clamping is safe for babies\, only evidence that it causes harm. \nRegistered Midwife and general Nurse Amanda Burleigh has been campaigning for optimal cord clamping since identifying that immediate cord clamping g had no evidence base in 2005. She co-developed the LifeStart trolley\, the first bedside resuscitation device that allows vulnerable babies to be resuscitated with the cord still intact as the evidence shows that premature and compromised babies benefit from intact cord resuscitation. She’s watched international guidelines change from globally recommending immediate cord clamping to delays of approx 60 seconds (which is not enough) because of this work. She’s also the founder of the “waitforwhite” campaign\, co-author of the #SayNoToBullyingInMidwifery report and is working with the BabySaver team\, which is a small tray which aids facilitation of intact cord resuscitation. \nIn this ARM webinar\, Amanda presents the evidence and discusses the changes in practice\, making the case for optimal cord clamping and intact cord resuscitation and how we still have a lot of work to do to ensure all babies receive their cord blood and how midwives can contribute to ensuring babies are born as healthily as possible. \nFor midwives\, students\, and birth workers. Q&A included. \nCan’t make it live? Book your space and the recording will be sent to your email. \nARM Member — £5 | Non-member — £15 \nBecause Midwifery Matters \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Optimal Cord Clamping – Whose blood is it anyway? If you have any queries please email enquiries@midwifery.org.uk. \n Get your ticket\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Become a Member of ARMJoin us as a member of ARM to give us a higher profile\, raise our voice and protect the midwifery profession.\nWe believe a strong midwifery profession protects and promotes compassionate and flexible maternity services. SUMMARY:ARM Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Midwifery Must Matter!\nHonouring our past to shape our future\n \n \n \n \n \n ARM’s 50th anniversary conference\nAt a time when UK maternity services face ongoing pressures\, including midwifery workforce shortages\, stress on services\, and concerns about safe\, woman-centred care\, ARM’s 50th anniversary conference brings midwives and mothers together to celebrate our values and display our commitment to meaningful change.\nOur conference will give you a fantastic opportunity to make connections with other like-minded people\, take inspiration from ARM’s past and reflect on ideas to address the current threats to midwifery care and improve families’ experiences of birth. You will explore how we can better support women to achieve the birth they want including the importance of physiological birth to achieve safer outcomes. Surrounded by thoughtful and supportive colleagues\, we expect you to come away with a more hopeful vision for the future\, feeling more confident and positive about how you can make a difference\, both individually and collectively – because Midwifery Must Matter! Now more than ever.\n \n \n \n \n \n Our Speakers\nOur day will begin with an introduction from founding member Marianne Scruggs. Then Mavis Kirkham and Nicky Leap will take us back to the early days of ARM. Leah Hazard asks what radical activism for troubling times looks like. Amifa Kebe-Kamara brings a mother’s perspective. Prof Soo Downe examines how we got here through evidence and data. Lola Ornato joins the lineup with her session ‘Do you see me?’ Challenging antiracism in midwifery. Melanie Jackson makes her UK conference debut. Kemi Johnson reminds us just how much you can make a difference. And in our Stronger Together panel discussion\, we’ll be joined by organisations we’ve been working alongside\, AIMS\, Birthrights\, Fund Future Midwives\, and All4Maternity’s Anna Byrom\, to explore how we move forward in collaboration. \nPoet Amy Williams will be gathering your reflections on being a midwife throughout the day\, weaving them into a live poem shared at the conference.
